On April 17, 2024, the NBA banned Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter from the league for “disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, limiting his own participation in one or more games for betting purposes, and betting on NBA games.” The NBA launched an investigation into Porter’s suspicious activity last month. On a March 20 game, one bettor placed an $80,000 wager that Porter would fall short of certain statistics. Porter then checked out of that game early claiming he was ill and it suggested cooperation between Porter and the bettor. According to the investigation, Porter wagered more than $54,000 on the NBA and won payouts of more than $76,000.
