Antitrust Probe over Wine Bottle Producers

Italian watchdog AGCM launched an antitrust investigation into local wine glass producers for alleged teaming up in raising glass prices in Italy. AGCM received complaints from a food and wine company, and a whistleblower about a “potential cartel among bottle makers.” Glass producers are raising glass prices, despite low energy costs. The whistleblower also pointed out that these producers were using similar wording when talking about almost identical price increases. According to ISTAT, Italy’s official statistical agency, glass bottle prices in August this year were nearly 64% higher than at the end of 2021. Glass bottle producers claim that they did nothing wrong and that they comply with all applicable laws.
